about

In Worth And Weight begins with “Silencío”, a take on an old Cuban standard from the 1930’s. In a bubbling exploration of the classic bolero, the ensemble breathes and speaks with a decidedly Okie accent, rendering a version that in the end doesn't feel far removed from the work of Ry Cooder or Teatro-era Willie Nelson. The second track is a beautiful, other-wordly take on “Polly Come Home”, a Gene Clark-penned song via the Robert Plant & Allison Krauss album, Raising Sand. A headphone-worthy meditation on loss and return, Combs’ arrangement feels intriguingly
psychedelic as it sways between the intentional and the abstract. Framed by production moments reminiscent of T-Bone Burnett and Daniel Lanois, the track is elevated by Jesse Aycock’s pedal steel and acoustic guitar contributions.

Recommended if you like: Ry Cooder, Buena Vista Social Club, Julien Lage, Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot
